SOUTH PASADENA – If you’re planning a trip into this city this week, watch your language.

The City Council has accepted a call to action from one of its younger citizens to keep profanity out of the picture this week and proclaimed it as “Cuss Free Week” in South Pasadena.

The proclamation is the brainchild of 14-year-old McKay Hatch, a South Pasadena High School freshman who received the council’s blessing after delivering a speech during public comment at a council meeting in October.

“I was really nervous the whole time,” said McKay, who started the No Cussing Club at his high school in June. “I couldn’t sit still in my seat. I was really scared.”

Despite his nervousness, the council was impressed with the idea. Mayor Michael Cacciotti, who has waged a 30-year battle against cursing as a soccer coach, said Cuss Free Week in South Pasadena is a “positive action with many benefits.”
